These ringtones have legs
Development Seed is making the news again, and surprisingly it’s for the political ringtones that Eric cooked up back in October. Reporter Mariecar Mendoza from Knight Ridder Newspapers wrote a story on the business of selling personalized ringtones that talked about how the music industry – mostly hip hop but also religious – has really taken advantage of them. She goes on to mention how ringtones have been used politically:

In a unique twist for a newspaper and as far as I know the first time one has tried this, a Colombian newspaper announced that they will host blogs for all candidates in the May 2006 presidential elections. El Tiempo said candidates can write whatever they want in their blog whenever and they won't edit them -- but they won't allow aggressive attacks on other candidates.
It will be interesting to see how, and if, the candidates use the blogs and how they effect the election.
NextBillion.net getting great press
NextBillion.net, the World Resource Institute's Development Through Enterprise blog and one of the latest websites Development Seed has launched, has been gettting noticed! Business Week says: "Most stuff that is written in blogs is self-indulgent crap, or mean-spirited political spin. Here's a blog worth spending time and effort on..."
