PHP Developers / Drupal Hackers

We're looking for people who are passionate about using their skills to help world-changing organizations by creating incredible web applications and websites.

Development Seed is a boutique online communications shop that provides strategic services and custom tools to help progressive organizations better communicate online. Our team comes from a variety of backgrounds - politics, economics, public policy, organizing, and the arts, just to name a few. We love having a bunch of smart people with different perspectives in the room dreaming up new ways to push the limits in online communications.

Your work with us would roughly be 50% on custom websites and 50% on our enterprise-level news aggregator Managing News. Our website work includes lots of intranets and knowledge management portals as well as cool public-facing sites and applications (we're particularly fond of maps). We use Drupal for all our sites, and are happy to train you if you’re new to Drupal. Managing News is a fast-growing product, and as you can see from this new site, it's about to take off. If you’re a news junkie and into aggregation, data visualization, and semantic analysis, this position will be especially exciting.

Important Skills

  • Great knowledge of PHP and MySQL
  • Experience using Drupal or a desire to learn
  • Good eye for design (Of course we have a designer, but we’re looking for someone who understands what makes a website beautiful and user-friendly.)
  • Interest in working in an agile development environment. We like to scrum.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently. GTD followers are welcome.
  • Great people skills. You’ll work very closely with a team of engineers and with our clients.

Other Desired Experience

  • Campaign experience +
  • Interest and experience in international development +
  • Multiple languages +
  • You've read The Tipping Point, Made to Stick, and Edward Tufte's work
  • Like traveling, photography, and commuting on bicycles

This is not "just" a programming job - we want someone who gets excited about imagining new approaches and tools to solve specific problems and then building them with a team.

This position is located in Washington, DC. The salary is competitive and includes health insurance, and we require that all employees take three weeks of vacation each year.

If this sounds interesting, please send a note and resume to jobs@developmentseed.org.
