WRI.org Redesign Launches Using Context UI
Mapping Real World Information Architecture to Sections within Drupal with Context UI
Mapping Real World Information Architecture to Sections within Drupal with Context UI
Our redesign of World Resources Institute’s main website just launched and we saved considerable configuration time implementing the design with Context UI. Here are four screenshots to show you how Context UI can take a smart information architecture and simply map it to a Drupal site.
In the first screenshot, you can see the architecture and design we built. In the second screen shot, you see how we mapped our IA to Drupal with context definitions. This is the admin/build/context page, which shows all the “sections” or “features” we defined for this Drupal site. In the third screenshot, you get a sense of the specific definitions on the news page. This shows you the the bundles of views, content types, panels, menu items, and blocks. Lastly on the 4th screenshot, you see how those definitions mapped to the main news page.

I hope this helps people jump into Content UI. A lot of people first heard about our implementation of context from Jeff and Young’s presentation at DrupalCon. Young has a great screencast of how the Context UI works here..

base installation
Hi there,
I do want to implement this good looking thing into my new website, but I cannot get this thing to work. Is there a more extensive manual or something like that to work with.
What I want is a primary menu with six main items as buttons in the top menu. If I click such a main item I want a secondary menu to appear on the page with the submenu items. For example I made a content type product_info, created a user context with namespace etc, content type link, menu link etc, but it does not show up. Do I mis something?
How do I configure this.
As a newbee to Panels,
As a newbee to Panels, doesn't Panels offer its own context? How does your Context module differ from Panels' inherent context feature?
Great Stuff, confused about the screenshots
Hi Eric,
I get the theory of what you're doing I think, and while it is a bit scary in terms of scope, I like your approach. I feel that on many sites, but particularly in the non-profit sector which has lots of coalition models, this is extremely useful.
I'm not sure what's happening in the screenshots though... Where are the little red arrows elucidated?
Thanks,
Jacob
This is really nice work...
This is really nice work. I'm super impressed guys. Moshe is right - this is great stuff.
Documentation
Hi. Is there any documentation for Context UI?
And, have you found another host for the screencast?
Regards,
cutting edge work
More evidence that Development Seed is leading the way in terms of IA, themeing, and development. Thats quite a trifecta. Thanks for the fine blog posts as well.
Yeah
I really hope we can get to using this soon! Also if we can get Panels 2 and this into D6, it would be "wicked bad", as the kids probably don't say any more.
Missing screencast. Hi. The
Missing screencast. Hi. The screencast you recommended to understand Context is no longer available:

Could someone please return it?
screencast
Thanks Scifiguy, it looks like the video got really popular and we exceeded our quote. Let me find the video and upload that some where else, I will drop you a line when it is live again.
Video
I'm a context fan, and look forward to the video (take 2).
The module is listed as not
The module is listed as not being production ready. Is that still the case?
developing, yet we are using it in a production space :)
Hey Scifiguy, I just posted back to Matt on this too, I know we have a big warning that this is still under development, it is. That said, you can get a sense of how confident we are with this to be rolling it out on a large production site. So thing are still changing, but as you can see there are some nice wins from this that have really saved us a lot of time. Look forward to hear how this works for you.
admin theme
Nice work, but i have to ask who did the admin theme? because it kinda awesome...
Young's Design + Themeing
Young did the new design for WRI and all the theming, I worked on the information architecture a little with him. If you can spend the time on the admin theme it more than pays for itself with improved usability for clients.
context
Context now looks like a very important module, and I'm looking forward to it's release and to reading more about it.
Thanks Matthew, it is
Thanks Matthew, it is totally worth checking out in it current state. As you know, we used a rough version of this concept when working on the Shelter project with you before DrupalCon, what you are now seeing if the general refinement of the module.
Very interesting
This sounds like a very interest project, one that is a lot along the lines of something I build myself - but *much* more polished. One thing - the screenshots of the context settings are unreadable, even when I go to flickr and download the 'large version'...would love to be able to see them better. :-)
flickr issue
Hey Caleb G, I am not sure why Flickr is having an issue with downloads, but you should be able to see the original images fine: http://www.flickr.com/photos/developmentseed/2575473367/sizes/o/
Release?
The context module looks fantastic. I've been looking forward to it since you first announced it. Is it near a stable release?
production ready
Hey Matt, great question given our warning on the module page. We are using this on all major projects right now, so we do consider this production ready, but it is still a work in progress and as you can see from the commit log, lots has been changing over the past three months. As you can see, a lot of the recent work has been more refinements. My take is that the wins you can get from using this right now on a project are well worth the fact that there is still development work happening to the module.
