How extensive is Drupal?
I am always telling clients how big the Drupal developer community and how responsive everyone is and why that is the real reason we use the great software. So how big is the Drupal community?
Here are some stats I just got yesterday from Zack Rosen at CivicSpace.
- Google says there are currently 54,700 Drupal sites on the internet.
- Drupal Alexa rank has increased 600%+ in last year.
- Drupal node count has increased 290% in the past year.
- Drupal user count grown 284% in the past year

The most interesting change though in the past year to me is the growth of the Drupal / CivicSpace services industry and adoption of the platform by large organizations with high trafficked sites. A year ago I knew of less than a dozen people who made their living around Drupal. Today I can account for more than one hundred. The number of CivicSpace vendors alone has grown from three to over twenty. One year ago the most highly trafficked Drupal sites recieved thousands of visitors a day. Today Drupal is running on sites like Air America Radio and The Onion which recieve _millions_ of visitors a day.
But it still feels like this whole party is just getting started.
