Value added online shopping – user manuals on demand?

Right after placing my Amazon order a little box appeared saying “Now immediately available in your Digital Locker: Senseo HD7818/65 Single Serve Coffee Machine, black (Supplementary Material)” Supplementary Material???

Maybe the title should have been “why do you shop online”? It would be better done as a wiki but here is the obvious list of why I shop online:

Maybe the title should have been “why do you shop online”? It would be better done as a wiki but here is the obvious list of why I shop online:

1. Convenience- I don't need to leave my house or put up with crowds- and now that some of my more frequent sites like amazon and buy.com have free shipping I'm not paying for the convenience.

2. Cheaper.. just look at froogle.com.

3. Really smart sales networks that tell me what I want to order next even thought I didn't know it existed until the page refreshed. Honestly last Christmas on Amazon made really particular shopping fun because – I could see what I had recently viewed, read user feedback, and then of course be turned onto “Customers who bought this book also bought.” Not only did it make shopping easier and faster it made it more fun because some of the suggestions were way out of the mainstream and allowed me to feel like I was really going to surprise people with their gifts.

4. And of course instantaneous service- Obviously there is a limited number of products that this works for – most obviously access/download to music like iTunes or a subscription to audible.com. But user manuals for coffeemakers for immediate download after the purchase??? Who wants to use instructions before they have problems putting it together?

This brings up an interesting point about how the internet can continue to add value to products and how sometimes it can be just a little silly. I will write back and correct myself if I need to use the instructions to brew a cup of coffee.

I think that is a nice touch. I love to buy something even from the local store and read the manual first in the car.
Reading the manual is never a bad thing. I have wasted hundreds of hours on trying to be smart figuring out something that at the end turn out to be something easy stated in the manual.
Anyways just my 2 cents...
