CBS Launches Online News Service
Yesterday CBS launched part of its new 24-hour internet news service.
What's particularly interesting is that they decided on this approach
rather than creating a 24-hour cable news service like most of their
competitors.
"Kramer calls CBS' venture a 'cable bypass.' Heyward said the new
venture would target a large, particularly at-work audience that isn't
reached by TV.
'There's a very demographically desirable group of news consumers,
especially during the day, that does not want to consume news in the
traditional way and may not want to watch our traditional newscasts,'
Heyward said Tuesday." Read the article.
Part of the website will include a blog, which then goes into what
happens when journalists blog about news. Will they be objective and
shoudl they? How will this affect the rules of journalist? The WSJ
examines this issue in an article currently free online.
Blogs have been mainstream (ish) since last year's election, but I
wonder what will happen when large media companies start really using
them, like many are doing with podcasts. Read article.
Will this knock out bloggers, or podcasters, who don't have corporate
sponsers? And will the FEC respond to this shift in their decisions on
bloggers and campaign finance laws? Read more about this on The Washington Post.

Good news for news. It can only make us feel better that technology is improving. Hopefully it won't have no side effects. It would be a shame if it would knock out bloggers.
